murmur principles
Theatre changed something in me - and I built murmur because I think it can do that for other people too.
I fell in love with theatre as a teenager, from the audience side. I grew up in a culture where going to the theatre wasn’t a special occasion - it was just part of life. That’s the relationship with theatre I want more people in the Bay Area to have.
Every theatre deserves an audience.
The Bay Area has an extraordinary theatre scene - and a lot of it is invisible to people who aren’t already plugged in. A small community stage in the East Bay, a bold new work from an independent company in the Mission - these deserve to be found just as much as a big-budget production downtown. murmur covers all of it, because all of it matters.
We inform. You decide.
We don’t rate shows or tell you what’s good. We give you the information - genre, mood, audience, what kind of night you’re in for - and trust you to decide what’s right for you. The opinion is always yours.
Accuracy is how we earn your trust.
A listing is only useful if it’s right. We work hard to keep things current and complete, and we rely on our community to help us do that. If something’s wrong, tell us.
We’re growing.
murmur is evolving - shaped by what people actually need. We don’t pretend to be finished. We just care about being useful, and we’re paying attention.
